Today the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers converge at the Point in Harpers Ferry to create a peaceful, picturesque scene. But this landscape bears responsibility for some of the most turbulent events in this town--and the nation's--history. In this stationary talk, historian Doug Perks tells the tale of how nature shapes our history and how the current of a river can change one's destiny.

Perks is a Harpers Ferry Certified Guide and Historian at the Jefferson County Museum. A former education and seasonal park ranger, his history columns are featured in the Spirit of Jefferson
