$35 - Peregrine
Industry and nature collided at Harpers Ferry. War and floods ruined industry, but nature rebounded, inspiring this town’s resilience. The peregrine falcon (“peregrine” meaning pilgrim or wanderer) came close to extinction by the 1970s. Thanks to the efforts of conservationists and the National Park Service, these magnificent birds also rebounded, and currently wander back to the cliffside of Maryland Heights in the spring and early summer. We thank all of our members who wander back to Harpers Ferry to see us!

$55 - Wayfarer
“In every walk with nature one receives more than he seeks.” These words of John Muir come true for all those who hike the trails of Harper Ferry National Historical Park. A Great Blue Heron. Fields of Virginia bluebells. Once defended forts. The hidden ruins of a factory long extinct. A Wayfarer membership supports the conservation of these treasures and more.

$75 - Marmion
The Marmion family could have “skedaddled” when war came to Harpers Ferry in 1861, but Dr. Nicholas Marion, his wife Lydia, and 8 of their 14 children remained. Daughter Annie, 8 years old at the time of war, later wrote a manuscript that provided historians a valuable account of the trials faced by civilians during the war. While braving threats of starvation and bombardment, Dr. Marmion cared for civilians, soldiers, and contraband slaves. This membership honors all of the families of Harpers Ferry that inspire us with their resilience and grit.

$100 - Lockwood
With a stunning view of the water gap, the Lockwood House sits as a crown jewel of Harpers Ferry. A witness to war and reformation, it is now a testament to the importance of historic preservation in our public lands. This membership supports our mission to support the park’s interpretive and educational programs and provide aid to conservation and preservation projects.

$250 - Shenandoah
Walking along the banks of the Shenandoah in 1783, Thomas Jefferson mused on the “war between rivers and mountains that must have shaken the earth itself to its centre.” Indeed, this “riot and tumult” in nature set the stage for dramatic acts in American’s history. Stroll the Shenandoah River banks today and find hints of what the rivers brought to Harpers Ferry and what they took away.

$500 - Potomac
The rivers and mountains at Harpers Ferry have empowered and imperiled its occupants for centuries. The rivers brought settlers here, kept Robert Harper here, and convinced George Washington that Harpers Ferry was “the most eligible spot on the Patowmack River” for a federal armory. The rivers brought John Brown, Lee and McClellan, and millions of visitors who seek history, knowledge, and recreation. The Potomac River membership is for those who treasure this place and our work to tell its story for the generations that will follow.
