Public Relations and Social Media Intern | Summer 2024 [POSITION FILLED]
The Public Relations and Social Media Intern will work with the Programs Coordinator and staff of the Harpers Ferry Park Association (Nonprofit Partner of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park) and will directly assist with social media practices, marketing, community engagement, content, etc. A strong background in American history and/or appreciation for the American Civil War, John Brown, the history of Civil Rights, and the area's natural history is desired but not required. The intern will be supervised directly by the Programs Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
We are looking for a enthusiastic person that knows social media and has a deep understanding of multiple platforms and their various functions including Instagram, Instagram Stories, Facebook, TikTok, and X. Social media is a constantly changing landscape, so a skill required to be successful is an ongoing pulse on social media trends, memes, hashtags, etc.
The intern will be crafting posts for national and worldwide audiences. Excellent writing skills and ability to generate creative and fresh ideas is a key skill.
Knowledge of and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and Hootsuite are preferred but not required.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Develope, write, and edit engaging social media content (including photo and video content).
- Create fresh content that informs visitors about safety topics, association and park events, the interpretive themes of Harpers Ferry NHP, outdoor recreation, and more.
- Work with Programs Coordinator to implement social media plans that include all aspects of social media, website presence, events, and use of media.
- Inform management of media trends, suggesting marketing opportunities and strategies.
- Research or survey social media of similar organizations for like business and social media practices.
