Interested in joining our team of booksellers?
Our bookshop is located within the heart of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and is a regular stop for many visitors to the park. In addition to caring for all details of bookshop operations, staff are regularly called upon to act as ambassadors for the Harpers Ferry Park Association, the town, and the park, answering basic questions on local geography, history, and park events. Excellent communication and customer service skills are therefore required, as is the ability to offer them to our diverse visitor population.
Aspiring booksellers should be able to work with minimal supervision, possess a basic knowledge of Windows software, and be committed to reliable attendance. Physical requirements include the ability to lift thirty pounds, negotiate stairs, and remain standing for the majority of an eight-hour workday. Prior sales experience, as well as coursework and/or an interest in history, are greatly appreciated in this position. Hours typically range anywhere from six to forty hours per week. Booksellers may be called upon to work extra hours in emergencies or at off-site events. Please note that this position does not offer benefits.

Assisting our booksellers in the shop
Using creative skills to design exclusive new merchandise
Help plan, set up, and execute special events or programs (including off-site events).
Help with mailings and other administrative duties.
Lead special hikes or programs with your expertise.
Contribute research, images, or writing for our publications.
